As per Texas Education Code, the four levels that students may consider when going into teaching are: Elementary (PK to 4), Middle School (5-8), High School (9-12), and All level (PK - 12). The main difference is the developmental, cognitive, and social level of the learner.
To obtain an Associate of Arts in Teaching, students must complete 64 hours. This may be completed in a period of two full years. Completion also depends on development courses and/or semester attendance status.
Because of the NCLB Act, school districts, must hire paraprofessionals (teacher aide) who are "highly qualified". The AAT will meet this requirement. Students also qualify for other jobs (especially in school districts) that require an AA or some college credits. The AAT degree also qualifies a student to teach in early childhood programs such as head Start & TMC.
The demand for highly qualified paraprofessionals is critical in this area. Most students will not have any problems finding a position in school districts locally, statewide, or nationally.
Is this an accredited program of study that transfers?
Yes, this degree plan will transfer to almost any University in the state, including UTPA and UTB.
The requirements for online programs are the same as on campus programs.
The main advantage of an online program is the flexibility in completing this program in the comfort of your house at your own hours. Additionally, students have the advantage of saving on gas and are able to go on with their full time job and other activities.
Even though is not advisable, you can always change majors and have some of the classes count towards your new major
As of date of publication, this program is permanent.
