We now have an instrument available to gauge student readiness for distance education classes.
The instrument is called READI—Readiness for Education at a Distance Indicator. READI includes five components:
- Reading Comprehension
- Technical Competency
- Individual Attributes
- Preferred Learning Styles
- Typing Speed and Accuracy
How do I get started with READI?
- Go to: http://estc.readi.info
- Initial Username is: fall07 Initial Password is: student
- You need a valid email address to register. Your PIN and results report will be sent to that email address. You can save or download your personal report as a PDF file.
How will the results be used?
- The instrument is intended to provide students a better understanding of their strengths and weaknesses as online students.
- Results of this instrument will not be used to prevent students from taking distance education classes.
Do I have to take the assessment multiple times if I am enrolled in multiple online classes or in subsequent semesters?
No. You only need to take the assessment once. You can download their results and email them to their instructors. You are not prevented from taking the assessment multiple times, however.
Do I have to complete the assessment all in one sitting?
No. You can log out and return to their assessment later if necessary.
